The frame is made from aluminum with a wood handle and brass fittings. The tape itself is steel with two repairs. One repair looks very old and the other looks very recent, see photos. The numbers are still present but are faint. Tape measures in this size range normally saw use with artillery

Yikes... I wish I had scrolled down to the reviews before buying! While adorable, this has to be one of the most poorly-constructed toys I've ever purchased. My puppy, who is not an aggressive chewer by any stretch of the imagination, had this thing full of holes within 10 minutes and completely destroyed in 20. Very disappointing. I'm glad I got pics right away. Save your $$$!!!
